Surround Speaker Check 2.2 Adds Free Dolby Atmos Test Track

Surround Speaker Check is celebrating its 10th anniversary on the Apple App Store by gifting users with a free, brand new test track. Included with version 2.2 of the app, “October Sky” is a mellow, yet full range R&B-style track designed for testing core 5.1 speaker configurations.

Surround Speaker Check now includes over 2.2 hours of Dolby Atmos test tracks and demo content

The new free “October Sky” test track is suitable for testing Dolby Atmos systems in quieter environments, and well as offering users an alternative, softer-sounding genre of music as compared to the original free “High Voltage Rock” test track. Producer Jeff Perrin describes the sound of the new “October Sky” test track; “A modern drum beat backs soft, urban keyboards to set up a relaxing groove for testing a wide variety of 5.1 speaker systems in a quieter setting. The track’s instrumentation encompasses a wide range of sonic frequencies, with John Mayer-inspired guitars providing upper midrange audio content while a soft-sounding, yet weighty kick drum pushes a moderate amount of sub-bass to both full range speakers and subwoofers alike.”

A Decade of Apple TV support

In 2015, Surround Speaker Check launched to become the only surround sound test app in the Apple App Store. Over the next 10 years, the app would slowly gain traction with thousands of Apple TV users worldwide as the preeminent utility for testing surround sound speakers on home theater systems. In late 2023, Surround Speaker Check 2 launched as a complete redesign built around supporting testing spatial audio and offering an ever-expanding library of Dolby Atmos demo content. As of its 10th anniversary, Surround Speaker Check now includes over 2.2 hours of Dolby Atmos tests and demo content and has expanded support to include sound bars, Apple Home Pods and AirPods, Apple Vision, and practically any device capable of streaming Dolby Atmos spatial audio over Apple’s AirPlay 2 technology.

Spatial Lab Season 2

Hot on the heels of the 2.2 update will be the start of Spatial Lab Season 2. For those unfamiliar with the series, Spatial Lab is an in-app video blog which features regular episodes of exciting content specifically designed to showcase Dolby Atmos on your home theater system. Season 1 of Spatial Lab featured over and hour and a half of unique Dolby Atmos demo content, including a squadron of F-35 fighter jets taking off and flying overhead, a first-person spatial audio perspective on skiing down a mountain, the serene sounds of a waterfall recorded for Dolby Atmos as heard from the middle of the stream, and many other unique audio experiments exclusive to Surround Speaker Check.

Surround Speaker Check is more than just the world’s most popular home theater utility app - with over 2 hours of content, it’s now the absolute best way to experience Dolby Atmos spatial audio at it’s most extreme!

Surround Speaker Check is available today in the iOS and tvOS App Stores.
